Last night, I attended the Maps to the Stars movie premiere at New York Film Festival. The movie was incredibly well done, of course I am a little biased. I did read the screenplay before the movie was filmed, but I’ll tell you, I still got chills at certain parts, and at one point, hilari-nauseous when Havana sings, “Nah Nah Nah Hey Hey Hey Goodbye” as a tribute to her competition’s little boy…well, I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet.
My review, as tweeted last night:
The movie was great, really well done. It’s a fucked up storyline and moral (imho): the narcissist in all of us should be condemnable. #MTTS

I know the main question I’ll get is: “what about Rob Pattinson?” Fans will not be disappointed, maybe except for the fact that his role is so minor in the movie. His scenes are funny – and he’s a whole lotta pretty. And there’s one scene with a wig… Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if Bruce Wagner is a big fan of Silence of the Lambs because Havana’s mother’s name is Clarice, and in that awful wig scene with Rob Pattinson, he straight up looks like “it puts the lotion in the basket” guy.
I’d like to comment on the score by Howard Shore, but I guess I was either laughing nervously or in complete shock – the only part of the score I remember was during the ghost scenes and it was appropriate.
It was a fun night and, if you’re reading this, you should definitely go support this movie.
Photos from before the show:
David Cronenberg introduced the producers, the composer, the screenwriter and actress Juilanne Moore, then announced the movie prior to showing.
The group then waved to the sold out audience from up above.
The best part was the Q&A panel after the movie. I encourage you to watch the whole thing!
