Since poker first came into being, the world of gambling has changed. It can no longer really be said that poker is exclusively an American game, if that could ever be said, because thanks to online poker the game has become a worldwide hobby of the casual and professional gambler alike. This means that people are not only enamored of playing poker online, but it is fast becoming a pastime of gamblers in the real world as well, at real casinos, not simply internet ones. A result of this is that poker tournaments have fast taken on an international flavor not really present before; the last winner of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas was an Australian of Lebanese descent.
And so, the North American Poker Championship will be heading north of the border in October to take place at one of the crown jewels of the Canadian poker scene. The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort will play host to the event, which has previously been played out at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. By taking the World Poker Tour (WPT) to Canada, the tour is attempting to reflect the current worldwide nature of poker. Many successful poker players hail from Canada, including former WPT Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu, current WPT Player of the Year Gavin Smith and respected professional players William Edler and Evelyn Ng
The casino is perhaps one of the grandest in Canada, with 3,000 slot machines, 150 gaming tables and a dedicated poker room, a 368-room luxury hotel, a full-service spa and a fitness facility as well. In addition to all that, the Niagra Fallsview Casino Resort has a 1,500-seat showroom, 30,000 square feet of convention, conference and meeting space, a wide selection of restaurants and boutiques, and one of the most famous and spectacular views in the world: that of the Niagara Falls, which spans over the U.S.-Canada border.
